Kelly Oyster Group Farm Walk

Your experience begins with a member of the Kelly family who will guide you and share with you how the oyster has played such a pivotal role in the lives of the local community in Galway Bay for thousands of years.

We’ve farmed oysters here for three generations – so you’ll hear some interesting facts and stories. Then a trip down to the rugged seashore to our world-renowned beds, on the Bay’s 200-year-old pier we’ll treat you to a tasting of freshly-plucked oysters – washed down with a local craft beer. Your guide will show you how to open/shuck an oyster – then savour the taste explosion of each fresh oyster against the sea’s dramatic sights and sounds. There’s no better sensory experience.

“We would like to thank you again very much for your wonderful guided tour through the oyster fields. You have explained to us the breeding and the enjoyment of the oysters in a charming, competent and extremely nice way. “Wanted to say thanks again for the tour. It was a high point on our visit. If you get a chance check out my YouTube channel protocooks. I mentioned you on my Instagram which is the same tag. Thanks.”

Frank Proto, USA

“We’ve been scarfing oysters in as many places as we can; Wales, Cornwall and Galicia (a Celtic, Oyster journey) to name a few. Our visit to your farm was amazing; we really learned about terroir and that learning has been a wonderful part of our oyster eating enjoyment, and Celtic journey. Thank you so much for this special experience.”

Gretchen Mohen, USA

“Our family of four (kids aged 10 and 12) thoroughly enjoyed the private tour of Kelly Oysters! It was hands-on, interesting and such a fun adventure when we put on the waders and went into the water. Our tour guide took great care and made sure we were fully fed of oysters along the way. The tasting at the end was gorgeous and thoughtful. Our kids learned how to shuck, and we were happy to try local beer, bread and toppings. Highly recommend visiting if you are anywhere near the area.”

Sarah Downing, USA

“Had an amazing time! Very informative and was able to learn so much about how they handle oysters. So thoughtful on the whole tasting too – absolutely loved the red wine vinegar topping! 10/10 would recommend if you’re looking for a unique experience on a more personal and local level. Also, who doesn’t love oysters with beer?”

Camrie Trautman, USA
